Best Time to Visit Tahiti

The best time to visit Tahiti depends on what you’re looking for! But generally, here are a few considerations to make the most of your Tahiti travels.

Best Time to Visit Tahiti

The best time to visit Tahiti is during the dry season from May to October. The temperature ranges from the mid-70s to mid-80s Fahrenheit (mid-20s to high-20s Celsius), and there’s less humidity and precipitation. With less rain and more sun, it’s a great time to visit Tahiti and make the most of the great weather.

The shoulder seasons of April and November can also be good times to visit, as they offer favorable weather conditions, fewer crowds, and lower prices compared to the peak tourist season.

It’s important to note that Tahiti experiences a tropical climate, so even during the dry season, there may be occasional showers. The wet season, from November to April, is characterized by higher temperatures, increased humidity, and a greater chance of rainfall, including the possibility of tropical storms or cyclones.

Best Time to Visit Tahiti for Whales

For those planning on visiting Moorea to swim with the humpback whales, whale season is August – October. During this time, humpback whales migrate from the rich feeding grounds of Antarctica to the warm and protected waters around Moorea. There, they mate and give birth. It’s one of the few places in the world where people can swim with humpback whales, and it’s an unforgettable experience for most.

Moorea is only a 45-minute ferry ride from Tahiti, and it’s well worth the visit. Toward the end of the season, some whales make their way past Tahiti, with whale tours now being offered here as well. But for the best chance of a great encounter, you should spend some time in Moorea and go out a few times.

Best Time to Visit Tahiti for Surfing

May to October is also generally the best time for surfing in Tahiti. April to September sees big southern swells, with May to August being prime time for Teahupoo, generally known as the world’s heaviest wave. It’s not exactly a beginner-friendly time to surf in Tahiti, but October to March sees northern swells that are less daunting but still fun.

Conclusion

That’s it for my complete guide on where to stay in Tahiti! Hopefully, you found the perfect accommodation in Tahiti for your upcoming stay! And if you’re heading over to the sister island of Moorea, try my Best Resorts in Moorea guide! Either way, I hope you enjoy your time in French Polynesia, and found some of the best places to stay in Tahiti for your travels!
