The hotel features two-bedroom garden bungalows and first floor suites with expansive balconies.
With modern amenities and spacious living spaces, it’s a great value stay for group and families. And while there aren’t typical hotel facilities like a restaurant or spa, having one of the best snorkeling spots in Moorea out front isn’t bad. All things considered, it’s among the best Moorea resorts for an island escape in French Polynesia.

The cottages are available with one and two bedrooms, with spacious living areas, outdoor patios, and a shared beachfront pool. Guests can enjoy snorkeling directly from the private waterfront, stand up paddle board, or canoe. It’s a cozy space with everything you need, and one of the best no-frills Moorea resorts.

Village Temanoha is a picturesque property located in the heart of the island. Les Tipaniers Hotel
Les Tipaniers Hotel is a remarkably charming resort in the northwest of the island. Right across from the motus, it enjoys one of the best beach views on the island. Snorkelers often use it as the jump-off point for swimming to the sandbar with the stingrays and sharks. The resort offers standard rooms, vanilla bungalows, and garden or beach bungalows with kitchens.
For guests who don’t want to cook, there are two restaurants on-site, as well as the restaurants at Haapiti nearby. By all accounts, they have some of the friendliest staff on the island, and I enjoyed stopping by their beautiful beach a few times during my stay in Moorea. Les Tipaniers is currently undergoing renovation, but once reopened, it’ll be back to being one of the best Moorea island resorts.

Here are a few things to know before traveling to Moorea. From the best time of year to visit, to where to stay on the island, and how exactly you can swim with the whales, stingrays, and sharks.
Best Time to Visit Moorea
The best time to visit Moorea is during the dry season, May to October. The temperatures during this time range from the mid-70s to mid-80s Fahrenheit (mid-20s to high-20s Celsius). There’s less rain and more consistent sun, making it great for outdoor activities and beach days. Moreover, August to October is Moorea’s whale season.
During this time, humpback whales migrate from Antarctica to the warm and protected waters around Moorea to mate and give birth. Moorea is one of the few places in the world where people can swim with humpback whales, and it’s an unforgettable experience for most. Given the nature of wildlife interactions though, it’s best to stay in Moorea for a longer period and go out several times to give yourself the best chance of having a great encounter.
Moorea’s wet season runs from November to April. It’s hotter, more humid, with a higher chance of rain and storms. While visiting during the rainy season is still possible (and cheaper), you may encounter rainy days in paradise, and should plan accordingly.
Where to Stay in Moorea
Where to stay in Moorea largely depends on personal preference, but here are a few great areas and what they’re known for and close to. In my experience it’s best to choose among the Moorea resorts in these areas.
Opunohu Bay and Cook’s Bay: These two adjacent bays on the north side of Moorea provide some of the most breathtaking views on the island. Mount Rotui rises between both, offering panoramic views to bold hikers. It’s about a 15 to 30-minute drive from the ferry port depending on your location.
Tiahura: The area around Tiahura is a charming place on the northwest coast of Moorea. There’s an abundance of local homestays, Airbnb’s, and boutique resorts in the area, as well as local shops and restaurants. People love the beautiful public beach, and the sharks & stingrays sandbar is in the area. It’s about a 35-minute drive from the ferry terminal.
Maharepa: Maharepa is a cute town located on the northeastern coast of Moorea. There are boutique accommodations, shops, and restaurants, as well as 3 banks. Many places on the island are still cash-only, and it’s a good ATM stop on the island. It’s a 13-minute drive from the ferry.
Temae: Temae is home to the largest stretch of beach on the island, and is a must-visit for beach lovers. There’s a protected marine area, little boutique accommodations, shops, and convenient access to the airport and ferry terminal. The public beach is a 7- minute drive from the ferry.
Regardless of where you stay in Moorea, you should look into shared transfers from the airport or ferry to your accommodation. Taxis are expensive and far between, and the public bus runs infrequently. A rental car or scooter is ideal for travelers who want to explore on their own. For everyone else, most tours include hotel pick-up and drop-off.
