But with over 130 hotels to choose from, which is the best Maldives honeymoon resort? That depends on your budget and the amenities and location you’re after. There’s also the ethereal aspect of romance, which can’t quite be measured. Although gorgeous sunsets, private villas, and five-star service definitely help.

Kudadoo Maldives Private Island
Kudadoo Private Island is an indulgent escape from reality. Based in the Lhaviyani Atoll, Kudadoo is a scenic 40-minute seaplane flight from the capital. And of all the ultra-luxe resorts in the Maldives, it’s the only truly all-inclusive option. Additionally, with only 15 overwater villas, guests can be assured an intimate space to dine, spa, and adventure to their newlywed hearts’ content. In essence, it’s a romantic adult’s-only Disneyland.
To begin with, guests have access to a 24-hour butler whose responsibilities specifically focus on organizing guest experiences. These entail personalized wellness treatments, custom meals, and excursions. Presently, featured excursions include luxury sailing, deep sea fishing, dolphin watching, and sand bar picnics. A dedicated chef is also on call.
Given that these are all-inclusive, it’s easy for couples to tailor-make their dream honeymoon. Not to mention, these luxury offerings run on 100% solar energy, making Kudadoo one of the least guilty indulgences in the Maldives. To conclude, this island is a fantasy come to life. If it’s within your budget, Kudadoo is the best Maldives honeymoon resort.
Soneva Jani is a gorgeous resort situated in the Noonu Atoll and reachable via a 30-minute seaplane from Male. You’ll probably recognize it from viral videos of Maldives waterslides. In fact, Soneva Jani is one of the most recognizable resorts in the world. After all, it’s home to some of the largest water villas ever built. And besides being large, the villas are also excessively dreamy.
For example, all villas feature glass floors to view the turquoise waters below. The iconic Soneva waterslides are found in plenty of room categories. In addition, master bedrooms feature retractable ceilings to sleep under the stars. As for resort amenities, there’s an observatory and floating cinema. Furthermore, there are the infamous ice cream & chocolate rooms available for 24-hour raiding.
Soneva might be sold as the ultimate family destination, but it’s also a paradise for adults. Without reservation, it’s one of the best resorts in the Maldives for honeymoons.
Gili Lankanfushi is located in one of the most beautiful lagoons in the Maldives, a short 20-minute speedboat ride from Male. Billed as the original overwater resort, it won Best Hotel in the World in 2015. In truth, it’s my all-time favorite honeymoon resort in the Maldives, let alone the world.
To begin with, each of its 45 rooms is an overwater villa, with several “Robinson Crusoe” residences reachable only via boat. You won’t want to leave your gorgeously appointed villa, but if you do, you’ll have plenty to do. Each guest receives a bicycle to make their way around the island. Activities include PADI diving, a sustainable coral initiative, surfing, and tennis with a pro. Of course, guests can also relax with sunrise yoga or ayurvedic treatments at the Meera Spa.
Above all, Gili has a “no shoes, no news” policy. As a result, guests surrender to island life. And what better way to spend your honeymoon? The only thing better than Gili’s barefoot luxury is its excellent level of service. For that reason, it’s my favorite Maldives honeymoon resort.
One&Only Reethi Rah
One&Only Reethi Rah is one of the most glamorous honeymoon resorts in the Maldives. Located in the North Male Atoll, it’s a 45-minute speedboat from Male. If that isn’t your style, A 75-minute luxury yacht ride is also available. While it may be true that many new over-the-top resorts have opened in the Maldives, Reethi Rah is part of the old guard. In a word, it’s established itself as one of the Maldives’ premiere island escapes.
Once here, guests can enjoy a romantic island getaway. For instance, couples can discover one of the 12 private beaches, or relax at the One&Only Spa. Conversely, active couples can play a game of tennis or try some watersports.
Finally, there are several international restaurants, 24-hour in-villa dining, and even a beach club for kids and teens only. Particularly for newlyweds, this is one of the most elegant and romantic resorts in the Maldives. For all these reasons, One&Only is a classic Maldives honeymoon resort.
Naladhu Private Island
Naladhu Private Island is the ultimate Maldives honeymoon resort. Despite only being a 35-minute speedboat from Male, it’s a world of its own. Unquestionably, privacy is hailed as the ultimate amenity. With this in mind, the resort has only 20 villas.
Moreover, couples can opt for a completely private stay and forgo the shared facilities. One can dine in-villa or on the sand. Likewise, guests can choose to embark on a private spa journey or book out the entire island. By all means, the choice is yours.
If you do want some company though, Anantara Dhigu and Anantara Veli are just across the water. As a matter of fact, guests at Naladhu are welcome to visit and dine at their sister properties. However you choose to spend your time, Naladhu is one of the best resorts in the Maldives for a honeymoon.
Opened in 2021, Patina Maldives is impossibly chic. It’s one of the newest offerings on the list, but it’s already garnered a reputation as one of the best honeymoon resorts in the Maldives. Set on the brand new Fari Island, it’s only a 45-minute speedboat from Male. Not to mention, stays of 4 nights or more include a complimentary transfer, which is a bit of a rarity.
Aside from the regular amenities, guests will also find art installations, retractable glass walls in-villa, and 3-D printed vitamins for turn-down service. Patina also takes wellness to the next level, with watsu treatments, sound baths, and floating pods on the menu. Of course, the usual spa treatments are also available.
What’s more, guests at Patina also have access to the luxury shops and restaurants at Fari Marina Village. A Saint Tropez-inspired beach club and yacht harbor are among its highlights. In conclusion, Patina is one of the best honeymoon resorts in the Maldives for the jet-setting couple.
COMO Cocoa Island Resort
COMO Cocoa Island Resort is a classic choice for a honeymoon in the Maldives. Tucked away in the South Male Atoll, it’s a short 45-minute speedboat transfer from Male. It’s home to only 34 overwater villas and caters to each with equal care. And while its excellent service is commendable, Cocoa island also provides great amenities.
The Shambala Retreat takes up a third of the island and offers a range of therapies, yoga and pilates, and a state-of-the-art gym. Additionally, the resort makes the most of its great in-house reef. A PADI dive center is located on the island. A local marine biologist is also on call to immerse guests in conservation efforts.
As for the rooms themselves, the villas are inspired by local Maldivian dhoni boats, stilted over dazzling blue waters. If simple luxury and world class service is what you’re after, COMO Cocoa Island is the best honeymoon resort in the Maldives for you.
Anantara Veli is a sublime adults-only retreat that’s perfect for your honeymoon in the Maldives. It’s conveniently located 35 minutes by speedboat from Male, making it an easily accessible slice of paradise. Additionally, Veli features 67 luxe bungalows and is one of the sister islands of Naladhu Private Island. Guests here can choose to enjoy the amenities and dining at either Veli or Dhigu, providing a generous variety of options.
The sister properties also feature a handful of postcard-worthy installations, like overwater swings and hammocks strung hung over the azure lagoon. Likewise, there are the usual watersports, world-class diving, fitness center, and wellness treatments you’d expect from a five-star resort. For all those reasons and more, Anantara Veli is one of the best honeymoon resorts in the Maldives.
Six Senses Laamu
The Six Senses Laamu is a dreamy barefoot luxury escape for a Maldives honeymoon. An eco-conscious property on Olhuveli Island, it’s a 40-minute seaplane and short boat ride from Male. And while the rooms have a wonderful castaway charm, my favorite features are the cheekily placed glass floors in all the water villas.
The Six Senses is also one of the only resorts in the Maldives with good surf, as well as an in-house marine biology team. the on-site diving is great, as is the selection of spa treatments. There’s even a rumor about 48 ice cream flavors on property. The resort does have nearly 100 villas though, which can seem a bit much. But with such elegant villas to choose from, you may never want to leave your room. Which doesn’t sound too off for a honeymoon in the Maldives.
Baros Maldives is another classic pick for a honeymoon in the Maldives. It’s catered to countless honeymooners over the years, and continues to deliver once-in-a-lifetime expereiences. Located in the North Male Atoll, it’s also a quick 25-minute speedboat transfer from Male. Most of the rooms here come equipped with a plunge pool or spa to enjoy from the privacy of your own villa.
Markedly, the resort features the first EcoDive center in the Maldives to be certified by Reef Check. It was one of the original dive resorts in the region, and still provides amazing marine encounters. Similarly, a handful of water sports are available. Yoga is of course, an option, as is private dining on a sandbar. But if that’s not your thing, there are three restaurants to choose from on property. With these offerings and simple touches of elegance throughout, Baros makes for one of the best honeymoon resorts in the Maldives.
Hurawalhi Island Resort
Hurawalhi Island Resort is undoubtedly one of the best resorts in the Maldives for honeymoons. Located in the pristine Lhaviyani Atoll, it’s a 40-minute seaplane ride from Male. Here, guests are privy to some of the best environmental practices in the Maldives. 30% of the resort’s energy needs are met by solar power, with a water desalination plant on the island to eliminate plastic water bottle waste during your stay. It’s an easy way to enjoy a guilt-free Maldives honeymoon.
Due to its careful stewardship, guests are often treated to dolphin sightings, and a manta ray breeding ground is 150m from the beach. And for those who don’t want to dive, there’s always the resort’s headliner attraction. Presently, Hurawalhi boasts the largest underwater restaurant in the world, 5.8 Undersea. It’s a creative way to make the most of the island’s diverse marine life.
Add the usual touches of barefoot luxury to this eco-conscious resort, and you have one of the best honeymoon resorts in the Maldives.
LUX* South Ari Atoll
LUX* South Ari Atoll is is one of the most Instagrammable Maldives honeymoon resorts. Located in the South Ari Atoll, it’s a 30-minute seaplane flight from the capital. It’s one of the more affordable five-star resorts on the list, which is due in part to its whopping 193 villas. While that might seem like a lot for a private honeymoon escape, the villas are spread out along two jetties and the beaech. One of the jetties is adults-only, and makes for a secluded base.
In spite of the large number of rooms, guests seldom feel crowded. With 5 bars and 8 restaurants on property, it’s easy to enjoy a romantic dinner for two. The resort offers the standard amenities like a spa and yoga classes, as well as perks like an open-air cinema and a marine biologist on call. Whale shark tours are a highlight for couples traveling in the right season. For all these reasons, LUX* South Ari Atoll is one of the best resorts for a honeymoon in the Maldives.
Meeru Island Resort & Spa
Meeru Island Resort & Spa is the quintessential Maldives honeymoon resort. It’s reachable via a 55-minute speedboat journey from Male, on Meerufenfushi island. On account of its longstanding reputation as an affordable way to enjoy the archepelago, it’s currently rated the number one hotel in the Maldives on Tripadvisor. With over 9,000 5-star reviews, it’s safe to assume you’ll have a great stay.
Rooms at Meeru range from garden-view to overwater villas with a private jacuzzi. The lagoon is as beautiful as many of the pricer resorts, with soft white sands and turquoise blue water.
As for amenities, there are 2 swimming pools, a business center, a children’s center, and 6 bars on the property. Private sunset dinner cruises and beach picnics can also be arranged, giving guests plenty of dining options during their stay. Finally, Meeru offers all-inclusive booking for a more streamlined stay. On account of all the above, Meeru Island Resort is one of the best resorts for a honeymoon in the Maldives.
Paradise Island Resort & Spa
Paradise Island Resort is just that. This perfect Maldives honeymoon island is only a 20-minute speedboat ride from the international airport. Once at the resort, guests can choose from villas and bungalows with plunge pools. Each room is framed by either the sparkling lagoon or lush palm trees. This is, after all, another top-rated property in the Maldives.
Paradise Island is home to a fitness center and tennis courts, as well as a spa. Snorkeling and diving are easily arranged, along with a variety of water sports.
The dining at Paradise is one of the most mentioned highlights. And with five restaurants to choose from, as well as two 24-hour options, a great meal is never far. Above all, Paradise Island Resort & Spa offers no-frills luxury and is one of the best honeymoon resorts in the Maldives.
Reethi Beach Resort
Reethi Beach Resort is an eco-friendly resort in the Baa Atoll, and the final one to make my list. The idyllic island is a 35-minute seaplane flight from Male, after which guests arrive via a traditional Dhoni boat. By all means, it may be the best way to start a honeymoon in the Maldives. Once at the resort, guests can choose from a variety of room types both on the water and off.
It’s location in the Baa atoll affords guests abundant marinelife sightings. Diving, snorkeling, and a range of watersports are available to make the most of its great setting. In addition, a sports complex, spa & wellness center, a myriad of dining options are available on the island. Finally, guests highly recommend the all-inclusive package at Reethi. Given it’s affordable price, it’s one of the best resorts for a honeymoon in the Maldives.
