THE WEEKLY #112: THE BARO TRAUMA

THE WEEKLY #112: THE BARO TRAUMA

Ah, life on the road living out of a backpack. Glorious freedom. However, sometimes you run into a few hurdles and week 112 had a significant issue. After the cliff jumping day in Los Valles, I woke up with crazy pain in my right ear. It continued all day and kept getting worse. A local doctor gave me some drugs but it didn’t work and on the 2nd night I couldn’t sleep even a second.

I decided to head to Panama City, a 3-hour drive, to visit a specialist doctor. She diagnosed a Baro-traumatic issue and pretty much it was a good outcome rather than a perforation. It meant a handful of drugs and drops and hopefully a full recovery within 10 days. It was a long, boring, painful day but you have to look after your health quickly when it is something like the ear. The whole ordeal cost about $200 for the drugs and the specialist ENT appointment.

I didn’t get back in the water but I did still manage to visit a few waterfalls and also clocked my biggest ever week running. I hauled in 51.5km’s up the mountains of Valle de Anton. Hopefully, I can keep building on that as I look to complete my first ever marathon by the end of my Panama trip. It will probably be on September 22.

These weekly posts have become a place for me to look back on and I guess for you it can be a short insight into what I got up to this week or what is going on. Here are my favorite photos from the week!
