Kauai is one of the most beautiful islands in Hawaii with the nickname “The Garden Isle”. Its awe-inspiring coastlines, rugged mountain views, and luxury hotels go hand in hand. This paradise offers a wide variety of natural landscapes, adventurous activities, and aquatic sports for you to enjoy an unforgettable Hawaiian getaway.  There are some epic luxury hotels on Kauai that will just blow you away and a few to avoid in my opinion. In this blog post, I have ranked the top ten luxury hotels and resorts on Kauai based on location, facilities, pool, service, luxe factor and the overall vibe of the hotel/resort.

Depending on your reason for the visit, I highly recommend the following locations: Poipu, Princeville, Lihue, and Koloa. There are a lot of important factors to help you get the most out of your stay on Kauai. For example, on the North Shore, you can have a picturesque view of the scenery and drive directly to its popular resorts and beaches.  In the beautiful South Shore of Kauai, you can drive through its tunnel of trees, be close to the township and feel its warmth. The biggest attractions here are the perfect beaches. Kauai’s West Side is popular for the groves of coconut palms that grow in its resort areas and the unbelievable hiking. I hope this blog will help you choose the best luxury hotel on Kauai!

This checklist should get you started with which is the best area to stay on Kauai for you!

  • North Shore: Quiet, low-key, surf area, several hikes, laid back
  • South Shore: Beaches, nearby the town with restaurants, cafes, galleries and tours, coastal walks

Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa (Amenities): Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa is by far the best 5-star resort on Kauai island. It is set beautifully in well-maintained tropical gardens and beautiful river pools in Poipu (“The Sunny South Side”). Take a splurge on your Hawaii vacation and enjoy the grand amenities it offers. The resort has approximately 600 rooms and suites fitted with everything you need plus the garden and ocean view is a bonus. It has more to offer such as a golf course, swimming pools with waterfalls and water slides, man-made lagoons, seating areas outside facing the ocean, and immaculately-landscaped gardens which are awesome for a photo backdrop. You’ll love everything here particularly their delish cuisines. The fun here doesn’t just end, different lounges offer fine wines, cocktails and premium booze. Also, traditional Polynesian dance and culture shows are available. Undoubtedly, this resort deserves to be given five stars!

Kauai Marriott Resort (Value): This property takes pride in its well-maintained resort, stunning grounds and gardens throughout the vicinity as well as its superb services. On top of that, the hotel is a combination of modernity and elegance. The rooms are spacious and are kept spotless. If you wish to have a garden view or an ocean view room, the property can provide you. The good news is that family traveling with children can enjoy the pool as it is not too deep for them to swim in. Since the resort is a walking distance from the shore, you can have a nice place for sunbathing or paddleboarding. Overall, there’s not a single thing that you won’t fall in love with this place. It’s affordable compared to Grand Hyatt and it’s certainly a great value for money!

Princeville Resort (Location/View): This ultra-luxurious resort is perched on a promontory and has become a popular hideaway as vacationers get further along the Napali Coast which is quite off the beaten path. Princeville provides what a 5-star hotel has to offer from its enormous outdoor pool, gourmet dining, a VIP spa service and easy access to attractions. The beautiful beach is unbeatable, snorkeling is incredible and some of the Hawaiian’s best golf courses can be experienced here. I personally loved the lovely views from each room and the infinity pool is the first reason why you should put Princeville on your checklist. From there, you’ll get a panoramic view of rugged mountains and Hanalei Bay. And if you want more than just water adventure, experience off-site excursions such as the helicopter tour and horseback riding. I highly recommend this resort!

The Lodge at Kukui’ula (Service/Amenities): Probably the most mind-blowing place you can stay on Kauai giving you that incredible Hawaiian landscapes. When I first laid eyes on this property, I was wowed by its beauty like there’s no other. No kidding! Set in Koloa, The Lodge’s stunning view with the vast horizon is one experience that is undeniably unique from other properties. This affluent country club is perfect for your velvet escape as they’ll give that best of the best when it comes to their top-notch amenities, food, and services. Their villas and bungalows are spacious with big glass windows or balconies facing the perfectly manicured grounds. Like Grand Hyatt, you’ll never feel it’s crowded in this place. No wonder guests have been rating this property exceptional despite its crazy expensive cost. This unreal property is definitely worth a splurge!

The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas (Family-friendly): Looking for a family-friendly place that can give you all the comforts and the vacation feels but without comprising your budget? The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas is exactly what you need. Personally, the property is outstanding knowing that it is strategically located on an ocean cliff and near some outdoor activities and shopping stores. The place is also insta-worthy as well as clean with beautiful Hawaiian landscapes. The highlight is the variety of pools on-site, one of which is overlooking Hanalei Bay perfect for relaxation or watching sunsets and rainbows. The rooms are good with sliding doors, wooden furniture, washing machines, dryers, and a decent kitchen with basic cooking needs which is an advantage especially those traveling with little ones.

Koloa Landing Resort at Po’ipu, Autograph Collection (Value): Your home away from home! Koala Landing Resort gives you a homely feeling. This property is a good deal with its finest suites and villas fitted with glass windows huge enough for you to see the best views outside and gorgeous wood finish works. Everything is just perfect in this place and family with children will love to stay given that the villas are spacious with the pretty surroundings. What’s not to love? Couples will also enjoy having an evening walk as the walk paths are lighted with a torch. What I really admired about this property are the charming facilities, polite staff, fantastic pools with lots of sun loungers and its picturesque pool area. You won’t have trouble if you have some errands to run as shops and restaurants are just nearby. I’d say that this resort is a good value for money if you’re looking for a place in Kauai.

Marriott Kauai Lagoons (Location): Marriott Kauai Lagoons is a posh oceanfront hotel which has 2-3 bedroom villas fitted with plush king beds, sofa beds, full kitchen, and the balconies where you can enjoy the ocean views. There are separate bedrooms and two bathrooms in each villa so you and your family have plenty of space. Being located in Lihue also means you are close to the airport, local restaurants, and Kalapaki beach so it’s pretty handy. One more thing, this property offers a two-level outdoor pool, a whirlpool, fitness center, on-site golf course, and fire pits. Along with its top-notch service, this place is certainly a great base for your upcoming Hawaii vacation. Your stay here will be as good as having stayed in 5-star hotels. Undoubtedly, one of the best luxury hotels on Kauai!

Koa Kea Hotel & Resort (Value): If your idea of a luxury holiday is having your needs met and giving you seclusion, this resort is just right for you! This boutique-style luxury resort in Kauai is right on Poipu beach which has 121 rooms with a private balcony offering scenic views of the beach and the ocean. And just last year, it won as the third best resort in Hawaii. Yes, the beach also is not crowded which makes it a honeymoon-perfect place. Being pampered, feeling totally relaxed, and having nowhere to go except the beach is just what couples need. This luxury hotel in Kauai sure gives guests convenience and comfort as they also have rooms for handicapped, not to mention it’s pet-friendly. Not only that, but there are also several dining options and shops which is only a brisk walk away. Convenience and tranquility are among the top priorities here.

Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club (Amenities): Make your Hawaiian getaway dream a reality at Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club, a premium vacation ownership resort. This beachfront resort is blessed with spacious, modern, and cozy 2-bedroom villas that can accommodate up to 8 guests with island and ocean view. Its blissful and gorgeous beach, unrivaled service makes guests take a fancy in this property. Unlike the other properties, they built the resort adjacent to the beach so the water is very near and you don’t have to walk a tad further. While snorkeling and swimming are common pastimes here, there is much more to do and see. Besides the beach, I also love the variety of pools and the Honu Bar since it’s a great spot for sunset and some light snacks. I highly suggest staying at Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club!

Sheraton Kauai Resort (Family-Pick): Perhaps you don’t fancy staying at an ultra-luxurious hotel this time, the Sheraton might be the best choice for you. It’s not super fancy, but it’s certainly got the luxe. The beautiful setting is ideal for those seeking accommodation away from the crowds especially couples and families and the suite rooms are highly recommended. It’s right on Poipu beach which is amazing and there two swimming pools in the resort including the newly renovated Ocean pool. In my opinion, wherever you stay on Kauai doesn’t matter nearly as much as simply being at Sheraton and enjoying your cocktails while waiting for the sunset or the sunrise on the beach. I certainly recommend this resort as one of the best luxury resorts on Kauai!
