For the last three months, I’ve had an amazing time exploring the mountains, waterfalls, and beaches of Panama. I’ve been incredibly lucky to meet so many awesome locals along the way who have shown me how they adventure in Panama. The people of Panama have made my trip amazing.

Two months ago in Santa Fe, I started the Adventure Bag Movement and with your help, it has gone global. I organized the first Adventure Bag Adventure Day in El Valle de Anton two weeks ago with over 100 people coming from all over Panama. We hiked two mountains and collected lots of Adventure Bags of trash!

PANAMA CITY it’s your turn! You are invited and everybody is welcome!

On Saturday, the 6th of October (this weekend) we are going to walking up to the top of Cerro Ancon for Sunrise. The view of Panama city will be an awesome start to your day! It only takes 30-40 minutes to walk up on a paved road! We will then walk back down to the clean-up site, which is at the base of Cerro Ancon.

I stumbled across this beautiful forest area a few days ago and it was so sad. The amount of trash is unbelievable and you will see for yourself on Saturday. It will take more than 100 of us to bring this place back to its natural beauty!

We will meet for the Cerro Ancon walk at the steps of the ADMINISTRATION BUILDING at 5:20 am.

The CLEAN-UP SITE is (Herrick Rd before Bodhi Hostel)

The schedule for the day will be as follows:

5:20 am: Meet at the steps of the ADMINISTRATION BUILDING

5:30 am: Depart and begin the walk to the top of Cerro Ancon

6:00 am: Watch the sunrise together at the top of Cerro Ancon

6:30 am: Walk down together to the cleanup site at bottom of Cerro Ancon (Herrick Rd before Bodhi Hostel)

7:00 am – 9:30am  Clean-up the forest area at Herrick Rd before Bodhi Hostel

End of schedule

(If you can’t make it to the hike but want to join for the clean-up, just walk up the hill on Herrick Rd towards Bodhi Hostel. Two hundred meters before Bodhi Hostel on the right-hand side as you walk up the hill is the forest clean up the site.)

The event will be 100% FREE. Supplemental equipment, drinks, gear, and help will be organized by local foundation Verde Spiral Panama.

These are the photos of Cerro Ancon trail and also photos of the trash at our clean-up site at the base of Cerro Ancon.

  • People who love the environment and want to help make it better

Thank you so much for starting this movement in my beautiful country of birth. I'm very familiar with the Ancon Hill area. I used to walk in that area a lot during my working years in the Canal Zone. Awareness and mass education is desperately needed. So happy you are getting to know the real Panamanians out in the mountains.
