As I take my first steps of the 2017 adventure with just my backpack, camera gear and no winter clothes, I can’t help but crack a smile. My plan is simple. Nusa Lembongan in Indonesia for 1 week, Sri Lanka for 3 weeks followed by the press trip to Kerala in India for 2 weeks. After, I will likely remain in India by myself to continue my explorations.
I have no expectations for any of these locations. They are all destinations of mystery to me, which makes the start of this year an exciting adventure.
Blogging and Instagramming have developed into my main source of income and fund my travels.
For those who don’t understand, I don’t blame you. I barely understand my life myself. My aim is not to do any more than to continue to live within my means, documenting my real adventures in the most authentic way possible. The blog is almost 11 months old and I pour endless amounts of energy into it. The second year of blogging will take a slightly different path, which I look forward to.
Despite the misconception that my travels are ‘sponsored’, I pay for 98% of all travel expenses and gear. My weekly budget is $200 USD which includes food, accommodation, tours and transport.
I’m currently sitting on a plane halfway to Indonesia. I will meet the crazy Jorden Tually and his mate Joel Vodell in Bali for less than a day before setting sail for the island of Nusa Lembongan. The island is only a 30-minute boat trip from the popular regions of Kuta and Seminyak in Bali. Having experienced the classic Aussie Bali experience more than once I am looking forward to seeing a new side to this area.
I also have a new camera. I recently picked up the GoPro 5 and the Karma stabilization grip. Hopefully some more consistent video and less shaky content will come shortly.
I want to say thanks to every single person who made my time in Adelaide, Australia an awesome summer experience. You know who you are.
