THE WEEKLY #65: TOURISM BOARD SRI LANKA MEDIA TRIP

THE WEEKLY #65: TOURISM BOARD SRI LANKA MEDIA TRIP

For the past 10 days, I’ve been working with the Tourism Board of Sri Lanka. We’ve been on a tour around the country, checked out a ton of adventurous, off the beaten path locations as well as some classic tourist spots. Our goal was to create content in the form of video and photo to promote Sri Lanka to adventurous travelers. We are sharing the content across our channels on blogs, youtube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and more.

In exchange for our content creation and promotion to our audiences, the Tourism Board of Sri Lanka covers all the costs of the trip. This is how must ‘press trips’ work and some also include a day rate or fee for your work. I’m incredibly lucky to be an ‘influencer’ in a period of time where brands, tourism boards, and travel agencies value our work enough to send us around the world and pay us to create non-traditional advertising to represent their cause.

While a press trip with a tourism board may seem like the ultimate ‘free’ holiday, we actually work our asses off. It’s a ton of fun but during the trip, we don’t sleep much, our only free time is full of editing. Press trips are something I often take as a challenge, almost like a boot camp. How much content can I create, edit and post while having packed, full-on days of adventures? Needless to say on the first day after the trip I always need a rest day or two.

The highlights of this last week were definitely hanging out at the 628 ft Diyaluma Falls, watching wild elephants at Kaudulla National Park and watching a sunrise and sunset from beautiful locations around the country.

Sri Lanka is seriously such a diverse island and it’s so full of new adventures. Each day you wake up reminiscing about the last day and then you get totally blown away by a new location. After four or five days in a row of this pattern you are so full of energy and good vibes, it’s hard not to love the place.

For the next week, I’m hanging with Jorden for a few days in Weligama where we will pretend we surf and do some relaxing. Then we will be off to Bali for a week before I head to Northern Territory in Australia.

I’ve already started publishing posts about my adventures in Sri Lanka and my Instagram is full of Sri Lanka photos so if you want to check that out click here.

Hope you all had a good week! Here are my favorite photos of the last seven days.
