3 Extremely Chill Things To Do In Boracay, Philippines

Boracay is a small island in the Philippines, known for incredibly long stretches of pristine beaches, a bumping nightlife and a range of adventurous water activities. However, when I arrived in Boracay it was the last destination on my one month journey throughout some of the islands that make up the Philippines.

CHILL THINGS TO DO IN BORACAY

Weeks of adventures and little sleep meant that my time on Boracay was going to be full of relaxation, recovering and enjoying the peaceful island atmosphere. I spent four days on the island and left feeling rejuvenated ready for more adventures in Southeast Asia. These were the most relaxing things to do in Boracay:

BORACAY WHITE BEACH

With reportedly the finest sand in all of Asia it is hard not to feel relaxed on the main beach of Boracay. Although it can get busy especially during the hours around sunset, during the morning and early afternoon the long beach offers enough space for everyone to find their own piece of beach to have a read, sun tan or hang out with friends.

Bars, cafes, hotels and restaurants line the strip behind the shore but remain far enough away as to not impede on the serenity of the beach. Beyond Station 1 are the most peaceful parts of the beach with most tourists not venturing so far away from their hotels. Coves, caves and pathways wrap around the cliffs.

White beach is beautiful at sunset as all the sailboats head off towards the sun, in a tense race to reach the impossible horizon. The Boracay sunsets were consistently beautiful. My first three nights I was lucky enough to enjoy some amazing colors in the sky.

If you do feel too relaxed and need to burn off some energy you can join a friendly game of beach soccer or volleyball along the beach. I joined in a game of soccer on the beach during sunset and had a great time playing with the local kids. There are so many Boracay activities to keep you occupied.

PUKA BEACH BORACAY

Exploring Puka Beach was a great way to spend the afternoon on a shore much quieter than White Beach. Cave tunnels and small coves were shared with only one or two others also enjoying the peaceful surroundings.

Puka Beach is a prime spot to set up for the day on a sun bed and enjoy smoothies, dips in the ocean and a solid session in the sun. I spent a few hours doing exactly that and came away feeling refreshed and relaxed.

SPIDER HOUSE BORACAY

By far my favorite spot on Boracay was a little gem called Spider House. Nestled on the edge of the cliffs around the corner from Station 1, it’s balcony area hangs over the ocean. 180 degree views from the entire balcony/restaurant area are the perfect way to spend sunset.

I went to Spider House on my first night and went back three nights in a row. Sometimes you just have to stick with a good thing. The drinks aren’t expensive considering the beautiful location and their pizzas are very popular.

Two platforms hang out over the ocean, a perfect spot to lay down the pillows, chill out with a beer and good company as the sun goes down. Make sure to get there before 4pm if you want to secure one of the platforms.

Although the water is only about 5ft deep you can jump from the platforms, which was an awesome feeling. Hitting the warm, crystal clear water while the sky was bright pink was how I will remember Boracay. Jumping from this bar is definitely one of my favorite things to do in Boracay.

If you aren’t into jumping, a pontoon or wooden platform is in the water only a few meters from the restaurant. During the day people are sun tanning and hanging out on the pontoon in between beers and pizza.

BORACAY WHERE TO STAY

I stayed at Bale Mi Resort, which was in a perfect location. The beauty of this island is that there are so many epic Boracay resorts that you are spoilt for choice and they are actually surprisingly cheap due to this high level of competition. It was less than a minute walk to Bulabog Beach and a short walk to White Beach. Restaurants, cafes and bars were conveniently placed in the surrounding streets.

There was so much space in our room I didn’t know what to do with it. It was amazing. There’s nothing worse than having no floor space to throw your luggage so having plenty of room made me feel at home straight away. A fridge, safe, towels, air conditioning, mosquito nets and hot water were welcome features at Bale Mi Resort. None are taken for granted in the Philippines.

The staff were friendly and helped us find a few locations and always pointed us in the right direction. There is no restaurant at Bale Mi Resort but they do have a great little bakery on site.

Staying on the beach might seem like the ideal location but Bale Mi Resort is so close to the beach it was actually nice to be able to get away from the nightlife and retreat back to our resort. Parties often went into the early hours of the morning and echoed throughout the apartments, hotels and rooms in the surrounding areas. Bale Mi Resort is sheltered away in a quiet little street and the room is a quiet escape from the busy hustle outside.

Thanks for all the info about Boracay! I am currently trying to decide between Bohol and Boracay. What would you go for if you had to choose one?

Best,

Edgar
