If you’re an active traveler, chances are you are visiting many cities and regions in a short period of time. This means you just can’t waste any time when in a new city. You’ve got to be quick on your feet to decide what to do, where to go, and what to see.

If you’re budgeting like me, then you’d want to spend as little as possible on activities, but still have a blast while exploring a whole new city. But how do you do that? Read on.

How to choose what activities to do?

When you arrive at a new place, it can seem daunting and difficult to find out the top restaurants or best activities. It’s hard to find a trustworthy source because tour operators and vendors are always trying to sell you their own tour. That’s why I love using GetYourGuide where I can sort by the top-rated activities in a region and read the reviews of people who have experienced that adventure in the last few days or weeks. Then you really get an idea of the top activities to do in a city or region.

GetYourGuide is a simple iOS & Android travel app that you can download and use for free. 25+ million users at the time of writing, which is why it’s such a powerful app. With so many users there are thousands of ratings and recommendations helping to filter out the less popular tours and boost the activities people are enjoying the most.

How other travelers can make or break your new-big-city experience

After traveling for so long, I realized that one of the best things I got from meeting other travelers was… Referrals!

Here’s a short story from Hong Kong about one of my experiences using GetYourGuide. Before traveling to Hong Kong, one traveler told me:

“When you get to Hong Kong, you’ve got to take the helicopter ride from the Peninsula Hotel, you’ll be blown away! It’s worth it, and bring your camera!”

And I did. If you’ve read my Hong Kong article, you know how much of a blast I had flying over Hong Kong.

He also told me how much it costs, how to make sure I don’t spend 2 hours waiting in lines, and all sorts of other tips for the whole city, not just that helicopter ride.

But here’s the thing… That Hong Kong traveler… I never actually met him

That’s right. While I did meet many people over the years and get all sorts of awesome referrals, this particular one was actually a review another traveler wrote in a travel app called GetYourGuide.

I decided to explain it this way because I really wanted to emphasize just how good this thing is for travelers.

So, the real story is:

I went to Hong Kong, opened up GetYourGuide, saw the Heli experience, and decided it really looks fun, but I wasn’t sure. Then I saw the activity had 346 reviews and a 4.8-star rating.

The added benefit is that I was also able to pre-purchase my ticket and skip any lines because it told me when to be there exactly.
So head on over and download the GetYourGuide App to take advantage of the Welcome Bundle that includes tons of discounts on rentals, language courses, and luggage storage around the world.
