Bonbon Beach Sandbar on Romblon Island: Complete Guide

Bonbon Beach Sandbar on Romblon Island: Complete Guide

Bonbon Beach on Romblon Island in the Philippines is one of the most beautiful stretches of sand in the world. It’s definitely the best beach in the Romblon Province and the sandbar makes it an iconic location in the region. Bonbon Beach in Romblon, Philippines is that laid-back, hidden gem you’ve been dreaming of. Imagine super fine, white sand underfoot and waters so clear you’d swear it’s straight out of a postcard. One of its coolest features? A natural sandbar connecting to a nearby island – an awesome spot especially during low tide. With its palm-fringed backdrop and gentle waves, Bon Bon Beach strikes the perfect balance between relaxation and the allure of unspoiled nature.

Whether you’re planning a casual hangout with friends, a romantic moment, or just a refreshing day out, this beach delivers the goods. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a genuine tropical experience!

BONBON BEACH IN ROMBLON: COMPLETE GUIDE

Bonbon Beach in Romblon is located only 3km from the Poblacion (main town). I even jogged here one morning from my accommodation, Stone Creek House. There aren’t too many epic beaches like this one on the doorstep of the main town and the ferry port!

It is a privately owned beach and we actually met the owner as he patrolled the beach making sure no one littered, which is always great to see in the Philippines or anywhere in the world.

The main drawcards for the beach are the crystal clear water but mostly the sandbar, which links the island of Romblon to Bang-og Island. It is possible to cross the sandbar to the island at low tide but you must be careful not to get stuck out there when the tide rises and the sandbar becomes submerged. At high tide, the sandbar is about waist deep, and at low tide, it is obviously fully exposed.

How to get to Bonbon Beach in Romblon

The parking lot for Bonbon Beach is actually a turn-off before the beach. This is actually really nice because it means you have to walk 500m to get to the sandbar. Believe it or not, this stops a lot of traffic and tourists. There is a sign that says Bonbon Beach parking and you can park in here and then walk down along the shore.

Many of the local families swim at the beach next to the car park. The water here isn’t as clear and the beach isn’t amazing, which is strange considering a few hundred meters down the road is one of the best beaches in the world.

We rented a moped for 500 pesos per day and cruised down to Bonbon Beach in just a few minutes.

THE BONBON BEACH SANDBAR

  • Length: The sandbar stretches for almost 2 kilometers, connecting Bon Bon Beach to Bang-og, a smaller, uninhabited island. It’s one of the longest sandbars in the Philippines.
  • Appearance: During low tide, the sandbar reveals itself as a beautiful strip of powdery white sand against the backdrop of crystalline blue waters on both sides. At high tide, parts of the sandbar get submerged, but it still offers a shallow pathway.

BEST TIME TO VISIT BONBON BEACH

  • Tidal Influence: To fully appreciate the sandbar, it’s best to visit during low tide. You can check local tidal forecasts to plan your visit.
  • Sunrise & Sunset: Many visitors recommend walking the sandbar during sunrise or sunset for the most picturesque views.

BONBON BEACH RESORTS?

As of 2018, there are no resorts, no structures, or commercial activities at Bonbon Beach. A few tour boats will sporadically anchor up near the sandbar and drop off visitors for a look but for the most part, it was quiet. In fact, you can see in all of my photos that there are actually no people in them. We really did enjoy this epic spot all to ourselves for the majority of the time.

CAN YOU FLY THE DRONE AT BONBON BEACH?

Flying the drone at Bonbon Beach was incredibly fun. To see the sandbar from the air was just one of those travel moments you never forget. For me the picture defines paradise. Crystal-clear water and a sandbar lead to a mysterious, uninhabited island. It doesn’t get much better and is definitely drone heaven.

SUNRISE OR SUNSET AT BONBON BEACH

Bon Bon Beach, with its unique geographical orientation and stunning sandbar, offers picturesque views during both sunrise and sunset. However, the preference between the two largely depends on the desired ambiance and lighting for photography.

Sunrise at Bon Bon Beach:

  1. Direction of Light: Given its orientation, during sunrise, the light would cast a gentle glow over the water and the sandbar, offering a softer and cooler tone to photographs. This can give pictures a serene and tranquil feel.
  2. Tides: Morning tides can vary, but often, low tide conditions during the early hours can reveal more of the sandbar, making it a great time for a walk or photoshoot.
  3. Fewer Crowds: Sunrise usually sees fewer visitors, offering a more private and peaceful setting for photos and relaxation.

Sunset at Bon Bon Beach:

  1. Direction of Light: Sunsets usually provide warmer, golden tones, with the sky often lit up in shades of orange, pink, and purple. The beach, facing westward, can offer direct views of the sun setting over the horizon, providing dramatic backdrops for photography.
  2. Tides: Evening tides, like their morning counterparts, can also be variable. Depending on the time of year and lunar phase, the sandbar may either be more visible or submerged. It’s crucial to check local tide charts.
  3. Vibrant Atmosphere: Sunsets might attract more visitors, creating a lively atmosphere. The communal experience of watching the sun dip below the horizon can be quite magical.

In conclusion, if you’re a photographer seeking softer hues, a tranquil atmosphere, and potentially more of the sandbar exposed, sunrise could be your ideal time. However, for those aiming to capture dramatic skies with warmer tones and don’t mind a few extra people around, sunset at Bon Bon Beach would be perfect. Always cross-reference your plans with the tide charts to ensure the best experience.

Just a stone’s throw away, Dolphin Beach captivates visitors with its picturesque setting, making it a favorite spot for both locals and tourists. And then there’s Talipasak, also known as San Pedro Beach, which boasts a unique charm that effortlessly blends the raw beauty of nature with a welcoming atmosphere.
