Blowhole Beach In Deep Creek Conservation Park: Complete Guide

Blowhole Beach In Deep Creek Conservation Park: Complete Guide

It might be considered one of Adelaide’s best-kept secrets. About 1.5 hours drive from the city of churches is one of the most stunning beaches in the state. Blowhole Beach in Deep Creek Conservation Park is one of me my new favorite South Australian beaches.

BLOWHOLE BEACH IN DEEP CREEK CONSERVATION PARK

If you have a 4wd you can drive all the way to the car park otherwise you need to park about 2km back from the beach. While this may seem like a hassle the hike was an adventure in itself. The path from the car park leads you down through kangaroo territory into a deep gorge. Hardy trees and bushes survive despite the land being dry as a bone.

The dry washed out mountains make us feel incredibly small. We know the ocean is near and the anticipation is peaking. It is a scene from the sound of music, Outback style.

We finally get a glimpse of the ocean and Blowhole Beach after about 20 minutes of hiking in the striking sun. My favorite part about this landscape is how the fluorescent blue clashes dramatically with the mild beige and yellow of the hills.

After a sweaty but beautiful hike, we were ready for a swim. Visiting during the middle of the summer didn’t mean the water was going to be warm it was chilling, to say the least. Waves rolled on through consistently during the afternoon. A couple of fishermen were the only others who were enjoying the scenery on the weekday.

Not content with viewing this world-class beach from the shore we decided to clamber up the rocks on the right side of the bay. This is when we really got to enjoy the bay as we looked back towards the shore.

We could catch glimpses of the coastline around the corner but decided to save a coastline walk for another day.

On the walk down to the beach, we enjoyed the scenery but didn’t come across much wildlife. However, as we made the trek back up the hill it seemed as though we had stumbled into the kangaroo hub of Deep Creek Conservation Park. We spotted over 15 kangaroos in a matter of minutes, much to the delight of my Norwegian friend who was visiting for the week!

The entry fee of $8 can be purchased online as you arrive but you must pay by card. Click here to buy your permit.

If you have are up for another adventure in the area, Second Valley has some awesome cliff jumping spots and is just down the road.

Deep Creek Conservation Park Map & Blowhole Beach

Deep Creek Conservation Park is about 1.5 hours drive from the city in Adelaide and is quite a scenic route. It’s a great area for hiking, fishing, and weekends away from city life. I’ve added the location of Blowhole Beach to the map below.

Awesome spot! But I have a question.. what about the flies? Is it crazy as in Innes National Park? I've been there recently and OMG it's breathtaking but the flies are really annoying.
