THE WEEKLY #12: MUM JOINS THE ADVENTURES

THE WEEKLY #12: MUM JOINS THE ADVENTURES

It is low season here in south-east Asia and that has suited me perfectly. It means no crowds, cheap accommodation and a quiet island vibe everywhere I go.

Last week in Thailand

For the past week I have been working with several hotels in Ao Nang and on Koh Lanta. I take photographs for them and write about them on the blog in exchange for free accommodation and some extras. This isn’t something I do often as I prefer to stay where I want and write about things I discover.

The hotels got in touch with me through a friend and the whole situation lined up nicely and the location fitted well. Luckily I was given a lot of freedom to explore and adventure with the focus on the location rather than the hotel, which is something that I prefer.

I stayed at the Alisea Boutique Hotel and Ao Nang Cliff Beach Resort Hotel in Ao Nang and am currently writing this from the luxurious Crown Lanta Resort & Spa on the island of Koh Lanta. Each hotel has been pretty spectacular with infinity pools, buffet breakfasts and beautiful grounds. A huge contrast from my normal budget and backpacker accommodation.

I think this kind of travel/work situation is good every once in awhile but I will stick to my usual methods and accommodations for the most part.

Another reason this week has been great is because my mum has stopped over for a visit from Adelaide,Australia. Escaping the stormy weather of South Australia, she has been adventuring with me on long boats, hikes, waterfalls and even been my subject in a few photos.

Traveling alone gives you great freedom and a chance to explore everything about one’s self. However having my mum come to visit has been a great way to get back in touch with the reality of home and hear about all of my friends and family. I get on great with my mum and she has an adventurous spirit so moped rides in the rain and muddy waterfall hikes are no big thing!

Upcoming Plans

My mum will be on the journey for another few days before heading back to Adelaide shortly. We are heading to Langkawi, Malaysia on the 5th of October for a few days before our final destination, which is Kuala Lumpur.

I will be hanging out in Kuala Lumpur for a few days before I meet up with my good friend Jorden Tually for a month of adventuring in Malaysia and the Philippines. The end of 2016 promises to be one hell of a ride, with lots of hikes, waterfalls, beaches and adventures.

Let me know if you are going to be in Malaysia or Philippines or if you have any questions at [email protected]
